A Central New Jersey news source ran a great article about the increasing popularity of puggle dogs. Now that the holidays have passed, puggles are still the "in" dog. Puggle popularity remains high!

Here is an excerpt:

"People laughed at Lisa Russo last year when she decided to breed her female beagle with her male pug.

"Everyone made fun of me," the Toms River resident recalls. "And then, in November, when Snoopy (her beagle) had her puppies, all the news stories on the puggles came out."

Now it's Russo who's having the last laugh — when she isn't busy answering her phone. Several advertisements for her litter of seven puggle puppies — three black like their dad and four fawn like their mom, all with wrinkled pug faces and floppy beagle ears and tails — have yielded her countless requests for the newest designer dog, each at $800 a pop."

Puggle Popularity has been Increasing Over Time...Puggles RED HOT Now

According to an article in the Sun-Sentinel, puggles remain red hot. The article provides an overview of the puggle phenomena and tries to present all sides of the puggle controversy that has been brewing every since the mixed breed cuties rose to national prominence.

What I found interesting is that puggles are not really an overnight phenomena. According to the article:

"Puggles have been around for about five years, and their popularity has risen steadily, Segal said. Although no one tracks their exact numbers, she estimated that there were thousands in the United States. The American Hybrid Canine Association notes that puggles are the most popular type of dog among the 500 litters a month the group registers."

So, puggles have been increasing in popularity for some time now, but they are the "in" breed (not in-bred breed, though) at the moment.

All you have to do is look a picture of a puggle to fall in love. It's no wonder puggles are so d*mn popular!

Puggles, Cell Phones and Dictionaries

British cellular service provider has added the term "puggle" to the dictionary used for those who like to text message with their cell phones. Their predictive text feature has recently been updated with some of the year's new buzzwords and "puggle" made the cut.

According to their press release:

"Did you know that a Puggle is a new breed of dog crossed between a Pug and a Beagle? Or that Vlogs (video blogs) are the latest rage? Language is constantly evolving, with new words becoming part of our culture every day. To help Britons better communicate, these and other words have been added to a special T9 predictive text input dictionary for users to tap into when texting on their mobiles. "
