Puggle Mania Hits Phillipines

I found this articles about trends from a Fillipino source. Apparently, news of Puggle Mania has made it all the way to the Phillipines.

The article talks about a few different trends, including the puggle.

It primarily recaps the basic puggle story that appeared in NYC not long ago, as well as briefly defining the breed, etc.

The author says "what really helped a lot was when movie star hunk Jake Gyllenhaal was spotted purchasing one in New York."

I don't know that the Jake Gyllenhaal puggle purchase was really at the root of the excitement. Personally, I think Jake was just doing what anyone who has ever seen a super cute puggle wants to do! Buy a puggle!

In any case, the article is right here!

Oh, and I am really excited about this puggle training mini-course that's being offered online. Everyone should take a look.

Getting a new Puggle? Read about Puppy Development

I know a lot of puggle fans are going to be bringing a new puggle home in the coming months.

I thought that those of you considering a new puggle might want to get a little infor about how puppies develop so you know what to expect from your new puggle.

I found this article about puppy development and, though it is not specific to puggle puppies, it is still a worthwhile read!

*****

Puppy development and growth is very exciting. After a puppy gets over its fear of its new surroundings, it will become very curious. People sometimes leave their puppy for a few minutes, come back and can't find it anywhere. If you can't find your puppy, remember to look under the furniture and in small corners. Also, don't leave small items that your puppy might choke on lying around.

Puppy development does not need to be a mystery. It might take a little while to housetrain your puppy, and you may also have some furniture that is slightly chewed. Remember that your puppy is still learning and be patient with it. No matter what breed your puppy is, it is sure to be a source of fun and enjoyment to the whole family.

Tips on understanding Puppy Development.

It is important to do all you can to increase your puppies development. Regardless of what breed of puppy you have, be sure to play with it and encourage it. A puppy that is lazy and is never played with will grow into a spoiled, lazy, and unpleasant dog. Having another puppy to play with might also increase puppy development.

Be sure to reward your puppy with dog treats and dog toys when it is being good. With the right puppy development, your puppy will grow into a fine, healthy, and energetic dog that you will enjoy for years.

Small Picture of a Small Dog. Puggle Time!

Is this the best puggle picture of all-time? Probably not even close to breaking the top 100.

So, why the link?

(a) it's still a puggle, making it automatically better than virtually any photo available on the internet.
(b) it's a link to a small puggle picture, which has unique advantages for some people who need small pictures for whatever secret purposes they might have.

Enough already, I don't need to justify myself to you. I put this puggle picture link up because I dig the puggle, man!

So do you. Prove it by clicking right here.

The Very Idea of Puggles with the Flu Makes My Heart Hurt

Did you know dogs can contract the flu? Seriously.

I suppose that means, by extension, that a puggle could catch the flu. That's sort of timely with the whole bird flu pandemic rearing its runny nose these days, right?

Maybe not.
But, if you think about a puggle with the flu, it might just make you weep a single big ol' giant tear like that Native American dude on the old anti-littering PSA's.

So, try not to imagine a puggle with the flu. You don't need that kind of sadness.

Here, however, is an article I read that talks about dogs getting the flu. If you are buying a puggle or already own a puggle, you should be aware.

*****

In today?s society with flu pandemics and such grabbing so much of the spotlight, it is easy for us to overlook the fact that our dogs can also contract a version of flu. Yes it is true, there is a flu virus becoming prominent in the canine world that is believed to have originated as an equine strain. This equine strain has started to appear in dogs in the United States opening up a huge can of worms that we as dog owners now have to deal with. As if there was not already enough dangerous factors that we must be aware of, now there is another potentially serious relatively unknown one to consider.

The Canine Influenza virus presents similar to the human version of the flu:

- Nasal discharge

- Eye discharge

- Fever

- Coughing

- Sneezing

- Vomiting

- Labored breathing

Prophylaxis (Prevention)

- Keep your dog away from large dog populated areas.

- Avoid grooming shops, kennels, boarding kennels, etc.

- Keep your dog away from stray dogs

- Consult your vet for further prevention options

The trouble with the Canine Influenza virus, is that infected dogs can appear healthy. This is why it is crucial to keep your dog away from stray dogs, or dogs that you do not thoroughly know to be clear of the virus, (indoor pets)

Treatment

If you do feel that your dog has developed Canine Influenza, consult your vet immediately for best treatment options. Due to the relatively new appearance of the condition, treatment is limited to IV fluids, and Broad Spectrum antibiotics.

Puggle Head to Body Ratio Makes Picture Extra Cute

Remember that Chris Farley movie where he does the "fat guy in a little jacket" thing? Funny stuff.

Equally funny: "tiny dog, huge head."

Check out this picture of an 11 week old puggle named after a talkshow personality whose name I will never mention.

Anyway, it is an awesomely cute puggle because her head is so freaking big in proportion to her body.

Well, and because she is a puggle and puggles are naturally the cutest thing ever conceived, of course.

Look at a puggle. That's why you came here in the first place.

Puggle: Preferred Drug of Chinese Dudes in Movies

According to Wikipedia, "puggle" can refer to the darling dogs I dig so much.

However, it is also an obsolete term for opium.

I hope no one gets confused and tries to smoke a pet puggle!

If puggles are a drug, I echo reggae icon Peter Tosh in saying "legalize it, don't criticize it."

I probably oughtta come right back at ya with a puggle picture link just to make up for this silly post, huh?

Annoyed by anti-Puggle Idiocy

OK, that last puggle picture link I provided was a snapshot that came out of a Columbia Journalism Review article. It's a relatively even-handed overview of the puggle phenomenon and includes a discussion about the potential benefits, and potential problems with mixed breed dogs.

Included in the article was this little dandy:

"It's a mutt and people are spending $800 to $1,000 for the thing," said Patty Staub of Virginia, who has bred beagles for 40 years. She says crossbreeding such different dogs to eliminate unwanted traits is a disgusting idea. "That's like saying I'm going to cut off a basketball player at the knees so he can fit through the door," she said. "These people have no idea what it takes to make a good breed."

Let me come right out and say it. I am annoyed by this comment and believe Patty Staub of Virginia is being idiotic. Here's why:

No one is taking already-live puppies and mutilating their bodies in a way that takes from them part of their primary function. No one is saying, "hey, let's saw off a dogs freaking legs to make him shorter."

If someone was advocating taking live dogs and chopping them up, I suppose that would be a bad thing. Breeding puggle pups, however, falls a wee bit short of that, don't ya think, Patty "I Failed to Construct an Even Remotely Workable Analogy" Staub.

Additionally, breeding to eliminate unwanted traits is apparently not that bad of thing for Patty when she bends over backwards to produce those wonderful show beagles with their AKC paperwork. I am sure she is probably pretty particular about having her pups gene pool kept just-so as she acts as a genetic mastermind seeking the perfect pure-bred beagle. You see, the only time doggy eugenics becomes an issue for folks like Patty Staub is when they find their income at risk, I'm guessing.

Did you know, for instance, that puggles are bringing more $$$ than purebred beagles right now? Or that puggles are simply out-selling beagles by a HUGE margin? Hmmm.... Wonder if that's what has Patty "I Breed Beagles and am Losing Money to these Puggles" Staub so upset? You think that might be a part of it.

It amazes me how high and mighty the purebred crowd gets over this mixed breed thing. You never ever ever ever hear them complaining about all of the mutts out there that millions of people love and keep as housepets. Never. They don't gripe about that at all. Why? Because your average mutt doesn't hurt their dog-breeding business, that's why.

But as soon as a mixed breed emerges that is an economic threat, all of the sudden it becomes hyper-critical to maintain the bloodlines.

Anyone who cannot see through that nonsense is just as weak in their logic skills as Patty "I Care About Making Good Breeds Only When Doing So Helps Protect My Livelihood" Staub.

Prediction: Puggles remain ultra-popular and Staub is suddenly out buying some stud pugs to bring home to the kennel.

Hey, I am not saying there aren't a few legitimate arguments to be had on this issue, but I am saying that comparing breeding a puggle to an intentional attempt at severing the limbs off a living human is a wee bit of a stretch.

The full article is here.

What is Cuter than a Puggle?

Trick question. The answer is two puggle puppies in one puggle picture.

Here's a snapshot of tow puggle buddies just hanging out together. I think two puggle heads are better than one, so I invite you to follow the magic link to the puggles.

Puggle on a Pumpking -- Puggle Picture

Now here is a beauty! A little puggle perched atop a pumpkin. Sort of a fall-themed bit of puggle cuteness.

Puggles Gotta Eat, Right?

I know a lot of people are going to be buying Christmas puggles and such. I also know that a puggle is going to be the very first pet for a lot of people--I know many folks haven't been motivated to have a pet until they saw an ultra-cute puggle, after all.

That got me thinking...These new puggle owners...New dog owners...Do they know the right way to feed their puggle? Just in case, I thought this article about feeding your dog was probably a good resource to provide.

*****
Dog food is very important for the health of dogs. It is easy to overlook it, but it is essential to pick the right dog food for your pet dog. People sometimes just pick the first dog food bag they see at the store, instead of considering what is needed for your own dog.

Puppies need different types of food than mature dogs, just as different breeds of dogs also require different types of dog food.

If your dog seems like it has no energy, consider switching to another type of dog food. If you are unsure what kind to buy, you should consult your veterinarian.

Dog Food should be healthy and tasty.

If your dog does not like a certain type of dog food, do not force your dog to eat it. Instead, try to find another type of dog food that has all the vitamins that your dog needs, and your dog enjoys eating.

Also, be aware that your dog's taste may change over time, and may not necessarily eat the same dog food all of its life. If it does not like its current dog food, then buy some other types of brands, and see which one is its favorite.
